Research and Planning - Contents Page Analysis

Genre

Genre for this magazine is Pop, to prove this there are images of 4 pop bands, One direction, JLS, The Wanted & The Saturdays (only 2 out of 4 on the page). There is also a picture of some characters from a TV show called Glee (an American musical comedy-drama television series).

Layout

The contents page has 2 columns, one from the editor explaining the audience what to expect and try to drag the audience into reading this issue, the second column is giving a little preview also of what's in this magazine. There are 3 colours used on this page (Blue, Yellow and White), these colours are quite bold and stand out to the audiences eye. The font is in the same colours as the background except black is used instead of white so the audience can see what the cover line says.

Representation

The 5 males (One Direction) are posing while smiling, they look happy together and look like they're having fun. We can see them head to waist (Medium Long Shot) because the attention is focused on them. The Wanted's image pose and the look on their faces look serious as if the not happy about something, they've used a medium shot. The 2 images of Taylor Lautner and Marvin (from JLS) are both close ups so the audience can see their facial expressions.

Target Audience

This contents page looks like it is most likely targeted to the female audience, I think this because there are a lot images of boy bands and male actors. Girls will buy magazines with good looking, young male celebrities, inside the magazine because that is what females are interested in today. The image of the 2 girls from The Saturdays could also associate to males too.

I think the age limit for this magazine is between 14-17 because there are images of young celebrities on the contents page and that is what teenagers between these ages are interested in. Plus, there are posters in the magazine (as seen in the bottom of the page) of a lot of young celebrities and teenagers will want to put up posters of their celebrities crushes on to their walls.
